STEM in Public Libraries Internship

The Pioneer Library System is a New York State chartered, cooperative public library system serving the forty-two public libraries in Ontario, Wyoming, Wayne and Livingston counties. The STEM in Public Libraries Interns will provide dynamic and engaging STEM classes for children 6 to 10 years old and their families across four counties. These classes will provide meaningful enrichment that is unavailable to many children in our region.

 

Qualities

Ideal candidates will enjoy children and teaching. They will be comfortable with 6 to 10 year olds and their families. They will be flexible and can adapt to various spaces, age levels and group dynamics. They enjoy learning and are problem solvers. They also are enthusiastic about science, technology, engineering and/or math.

 

Qualifications

Students with an interest in education, science, math or related fields. Availability some nights and weekends. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Any experience with coding is a plus

 

Time Frame

This internship will run from June 11th to August 18th. The internship will be approximately 12 hrs/week for a total of 120 hrs over 10 weeks. Candidates must be available for weekdays, weekday evenings and occasional Saturday mornings June 25th to August 18th.

 

Total 120 hrs per intern

Preparation (30 hrs per intern)

Week of June 11th    Intern training, refinement of curriculum, development of advertising materials, preparation of program supplies

Week of June 18th    Soft launch of program, test in libraries                                                           

Implementation (84 hrs per intern)

June 25th    to   August 10th   

Evaluation (6 hrs per intern)

Week of August 13th Student Interns will help compile data and discuss their experiences in Student Reflective Learning Session with Hope Decker                                                                              

Pay

$10.40/hr and mileage
