Join us for the 2022 OWWL Libraries Summer Reading Workshop!
Agenda
- 9:00 - 9:30 Refreshments & Reconnect
Check-in, set up posters, and reconnect with peers you may not have seen in person in over two years!
Posters: This year, we invite libraries to create a poster highlighting their calendars, reading logs, flyers, and pictures from previous summers and what they have planned for this year. Posters are a great way to show what your library does for Summer Reading and crowdsource ideas from your Youth Services peers.
- 9:30 Welcome
- 9:30 - 10:15 Basics of the Erie Canal presented by Derrick Pratt, The Erie Canal Museum
OWWL Libraries may not be located near an ocean, but we have a unique waterway system close by. In this crash course on “Clinton’s Ditch,” you’ll discover the history of the Erie Canal and find inspiration for incorporating our local resources into Summer Reading planning.
- 10:15 - 10:30 Break & Poster Browsing
- 10:30 - 12:00 Summer Reading 101
New to Summer Reading or feel like you are starting over after two COVID years? Sarah Matthews, Krystina Dippel, and Katie Smith will provide Oceans of Possibilities to help you plan or re-plan your summer offerings in this interactive presentation.
- 12:00 - 1:00 Lunch & Posters Browsing
Bring your own lunch, join the group order, or head out to a local eatery.
- 1:00 - 4:00 Field Journal Journey presented by Angie Cannon-Crothers, Cumming Nature Center/Rochester Museum & Science Center
Discover the natural history of field journaling and what value a field journal can have for individuals and citizen science. Learn different recording methods, from lists to study sketches, and how you can incorporate these methods into outdoor Summer Reading programs.
- 4:00 - 4:30 Around the Table
Share what is happening at your library, including new programs, services, and materials.
- 4:30 Raffles & Closing Remarks
Registration is closed. Please contact Suzanne with any questions.
