Imagine Your Story: Ideas and Programs for SLP 2020 (2 Hours)

Imagine the future, explore the past, and unleash the magic this summer! We’ll begin with Folk and Fairytales as our base, creatively extending this aspect of your collection by sharing stories, music, dramatics, puppets, and variants in programs. From there, we will jump off to a wider array of program ideas, books, and materials to weave this imaginative theme across your summer reading program with creativity and fanciful flourishes. In this interactive workshop, Jill Burket Ragase will give you a variety of tools that you will be able to use to:

• Apply the Imagine Your Story CSLP theme to include programs and activities for children and tweens

• Incorporate different versions/variants of folktales, tales from around the world, American tall tales, fables, modern/fractured fairy tales and Caldecott-winning tales in children’s programs.

• Select poetry, music, creative dramatics, reader's theatre, and puppetry to expand folk and fairytales in children’s programs.

Folk and fairytales come in as many varieties and adaptions as colors in the spectrum. Program and expansion activities are limitless. We will discuss the variety and types stories available as well as program pairings, collection uses, and collection promotion opportunities.

Jill Burket Ragase is the Literacy Content and Logistics Director for Blue Manatee Literacy Project, a 2019 James Patterson Bookseller of the Year, a member of the American Bookseller Association’s Education Task Force and is the Project and Operations Leader for Cincinnati’s annual Books by the Banks book festival.
