Part 1 - Libraries as Lifeboats: Communities in Crisis 9:30am - 11:30pm
Libraries can be valuable assets during disasters and public health emergencies when other facilities and services may be compromised or closed. Instructor, Dan Wilson, will share how public librarians can become an integral part of the emergency preparedness and response efforts in the local community. He will also demonstrate an array of existing resources, tools, and programs that are available to support them in this role.

Dan Wilson is the Associate Director for Collections & Library Services at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Library. He is also the Coordinator for the National Network/Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) National Emergency Preparedness & Response plan. In this role, he oversees the development of the national plan, works with staff and state coordinators in the eight regions of the NN/LM on preparedness and response procedures, and provides training in service continuity planning for libraries.

Michael Brock has been a Deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for 21 years. He is a Certified FBI Bomb Tech, Firearms Instructor/Coordinator, Instructed at the Federal, State and Local levels, and Training Coordinator for the University of Rochester Department of Public Safety.
Part 2 - Light Lunch 12:30pm - 1:00pm
Part 3 - Go Games: Disaster Preparedness 1:00pm - 4:30pm
The Disaster Preparedness Game is an interactive experience that will teach you how to prepare and respond to any disaster scenario; all while having a blast and forging strong bonds. Teams will receive a smart phone from the on-site event producer that guides them through a series of challenges designed to give players the skills they need to survive a variety of emergency situations. Facilitators will be located at each station to teach and evaluate teams. Join us, hone your skills, and have a great time!
