2017 Scholarship Information 

Continuing education scholarships for five conferences will be granted to applicants based on the demonstration of need and desire to serve their library and community.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for a continuing education scholarship:

  • Currently employed by a Pioneer Library System member library.
  • Ability to present on the information gained at your selected conference during a System Meeting or other Pioneer Library System professional development event.
  • Complete the application form by March 1, 2017.
  • Contact Hope Decker (hdecker@pls-net.org) with any questions. 

Scholarship Information:

  • Scholarships will reimburse costs for conference registration, hotel, travel, and up to $50 per day for meals after attending the conference and submitting receipts for expenses.
  • Reimbursement funds will not exceed the scholarship award.
  • Reimbursement will be paid to the recipient’s library; the library will be responsible for reimbursing the recipient.
  • Reimbursement will be contingent upon presenting information at a System Meeting or other Pioneer Library System professional development event.
  • Award amounts are supplemental and may not cover the entire cost of the chosen conference.
  • Applicants may apply for multiple scholarships by ranking conferences in order of preference in the “Indicate Desired Conference” section (1 being highest preference) and submitting separate essays for each selected conference.
  • A PLS scholarship committee will review all applications.

YSS (Youth Services Section)
Description
: Library professionals today find themselves increasingly challenged by the rapid changes that are occurring in the communities they serve. The vision for the 2017 YSS Spring Conference is to recognize the changes that are impacting the work of youth library professionals and to explore our response to the unique opportunities presented by those changes. Digipalooza- OverDrive
Description
: Learn how to maximize the value and circulation of eBooks, digital audiobooks, and other media through best practices from experienced library and school staff, demonstrations of the latest innovations with devices and mobile applications, as well as tips and tools for increasing awareness and addressing today’s trends. ARSL National Institute (The Association for Rural and Small Libraries)
Description:
Every year ARSL creates a unique conference for library staff from rural and small communities designed with both practicalities and with the understanding that professional development and networking are essential parts of our success. NYLA (New York Library Association)
Description
: The Annual Conference and Trade Show, held each October/November around the state, is the largest state library association conference held on the East Coast. Offering a wide variety of programs, special events, networking opportunities, and vendor displays, the NYLA Annual Conference and Trade Show offers educational opportunities for all segments of the library community from library staff to trustees. PLA (Public Library Association)
Description
: The biennial PLA Conference holds a reputation for excellence as the largest conference devoted to public library professionals. The multi-day event offers nearly 200 top-quality education programs, social events that include author luncheons and networking receptions, and a bustling exhibits hall featuring the latest in products and services. Registration will open September 15, 2017.
